Case Study: Prefabrication – Modular Buildings
Harry’s Café de Wheels has been providing the best pies in Sydney through mobile food caravans for over 70 years. It has cafés in Woolloomooloo, Newcastle, Haymarket, Liverpool, Parramatta, Tempe, Burwood, Darling Harbour, Campbelltown and Penrith.
The Problem
Harry’s wanted to roll out a drive-thru concept. However, the current caravan design would not work with what was required.
The Solution
- Worked with the franchisee and Harry’s to procure a reverse brief of what the client required
- Provided a Principal Project Requirements (PPR) document and engage all necessary consultants
- Oversaw all the design and added value where possible
- Secured the Development Approval and the Construction Certificate
- Came up with the drive-thru concept: A modular solution that can be easily moved to different locations when required
- Got the approval for the module under the Retail Food Act
- Managed the fabricator in China and negotiated the fabrication contract and all the terms on behalf of the client
- Coordinated all aspects of the manufacturing process – managing the Australian engineers and architects and the Chinese fabricators
- Managed quality control to ensure the final product complied with Australian standards and the Building Code of Australia
- Procured the Occupation Certificate
The Result
DMA Global completed the project and built the drive-thru café concept.
